Crane Circulation Policy for ILL
Details
The following is the official Interlibrary Loan Policy for the Crane Library Collections. Many Crane Library items are desirable to other institutional libraries, yet some of those items are rare or irreplaceable. This policy will guide the availability to the Interlibrary Loan Office of scores, books, CDs, DVDs, and microforms.
General Conditions
Books and scores (including oversize and miniature formats) in the circulating collection are available for unrestricted loan (with the exception of those classed M1, M2, and M3 [see below]).
Single-disc CD and DVD units are available for loan unless they have been tagged for reserve.
Individual Conditions
Reference books
Single volumes may be loaned. Multi-volume sets should not be loaned. Nor should the following volumes:
Canfield Guide to Classical Recordings (this is a two-volume set consisting of the Guide and the Discographic Encyclopedia)
Periodicals
Whole volumes may not be loaned. Individual articles will be scanned and transmitted per existing procedure.
Restricted Access: No items should be loaned.
Scores
Monuments and collected editions (shelved as M1, M2, and M3) should not be loaned whole or in part.
Sound recordings
Vinyl LPs, whether single-disc or box sets, should not be loaned. Multidisc sets of CDs should not be loaned.
Video recordings
VHS video may be loaned, although the ILL officer should take into consideration age of item and may advise the borrowing library accordingly. Multidisc sets of DVDs should not be loaned.
Microforms
Crane has very few microforms, fewer yet that are cataloged. They need not be loaned.
Master’s theses written by Crane School of Music students
College Archives has a complete set, so the copies retained at Crane Library should serve as back-ups. Request and ILL use should follow archives procedure.
